The Berkshire Ladies County Championship - Tegner Trophy - Friday 23rd April 2010

"Some excellent golf was played at Royal Ascot Golf Club on Friday 23rd of April.
34 Berkshire Ladies played in glorious sunshine in the Tegner Trophy. This prestigious event is the 36 hole medal qualifier from which the top 16 ladies play for the Berkshire Ladies County Matchplay Championship over the weekend.
The winner of the Tegner Trophy was Tracy Crew from Reading Golf Club with a gross 147,
second place Laura Webb with a gross 149 from East Berks Golf Club
and third place Gabi Heuchel with a gross 152.
A special presentation was made by Royal Ascot Golf Club to Sally Collier from Castle Royle Golf Club
for achieving a hole in one on the 17th."

"The top 16 players from the 36 hole Tegner Trophy went through to play the Berkshire County Ladies Matchplay Championships.  We were again blessed on saturday with fabulous weather and were very fortunate to welcome the Captain of the BB&O Union, Malcolm Reid who came to watch all the matches tee off and then spent some time walking round the course watching the impressive play.  3 of the morning matches went to the 19th, one finished on the 18th and the other 4 were not quite as close.  The afternoon saw 4 matches with Charlie Keenan (Reading) playing Karen Thompson(East Berks), Maddy Pearce (Sand Martins) playing Elaine Moffatt(Maidenhead), Gabi Heuchel (East Berks) playing Liz Freeman (Sand Martins), and Maureen Harman(Sand Martins)  playing Laura Webb (East Berks).  The first matches were all concluded at the 14th, Karen, Maddy and Gabi all winning. The last match was very tight and went to the 22nd hole with some stunning play by both Laura and Maureen.  The eventual winner of the this match was Maureen who sank a birdie putt to close it out.
Sunday morning was a very different story weatherwise - it was cold and wet and thoroughly miserable.  Karen took on Maddy and Gabi took on Maureen. The results were Karen winning 3/1 and Gabi winning 3/2 thus setting up an all East Berkshire final.   The afternoons weather was fantastic and ideal conditions for playing golf.  As with a lot of finals the golf played was not of the highest quality but nevertheless it certainly kept the large gathering of supporters walking the full course as it was all square going up the par 5 18th hole.  Both were on the green for 4 and looking as though they would progress to the 19th.  Gabi sank a killer putt first and unfortunately Karen could not match it.   After a great number of years playing in the Championships Gabi Heuchel had finally achieved her dream and won and is now County Champion.
Congratulations to all who took part.
